David Smith arrested for drink driving

7:26 am on 27 May 2009

The Hurricanes winger David Smith was arrested in Wellington on Sunday morning for drink-driving, just over 24 hours after playing for the Hurricanes in their Super 14 semi-final loss to the Chiefs in Hamilton.

As the matter is being investigated by police, neither the NZRU nor the Hurricanes will be making any further comment.

Once the legal process has concluded, the NZRU will commence its own misconduct process.

The collective agreement between the NZRU and its professional players includes a formal process for investigating any incidents of misconduct.
