6:43 am on 1 June 2009

The Bulldogs found themselves on the wrong end of yet another video referee controversy as they dropped off the top of the National Rugby League ladder with a heart-breaking loss to Newcastle.

Canberra were denied one try and had another contentious one awarded against them as the Knights ran out 22-14.

Defeat saw the visitors finish the round in third spot behind St George Illawarra and Brisbane and tied with Newcastle on 16 competition points.

The Dragons are top after crushing Penrith 38-10, while the Sharks ducked a tenth straight defeat with a 13-10 win over Parramatta.

The Sharks remain last however with 15th placed Sydney Roosters one of six teams to enjoy a bye.

The Warriors beat Wests Tigers, breaking their three-match losing streak, 14-nil in Auckland.
