The men's third-seeded tennis player Andy Murray has been the biggest casualty on day 10 at the French Open, outclassed in the quarter-finals by the Chilean 12th seed Fernando Gonzalez in four sets.

Gonzalez's opponent in the semi-finals will be Sweden's Robin Soderling, the man who knocked out the world number one Rafael Nadal before thrashing the 10th seed from Russia Nikolay Davydenko on Wednesday morning, 6-1 6-3 6-1. Soderling has now beaten three seeded players in Paris.

In the women's quarter-finals, Maria Sharapova's comeback was cut short by a young Slovakian, Dominika Cibulkova who dropped only two games.

The women's world number one Dinara Safina from Russia dropped her first set of the championship, but recovered to beat Victoria Azarenka from Belarus, 1-6, 6-4, 6-2.
