Wellington's Tamati Ellison's been named captain of the Junior All Blacks side to compete at this year's Pacific Nations Cup.

Ellison was co-captain of the New Zealand Maori team that won the tournament last year.

He's also represented New Zealand at the Junior All Blacks, Under 21 and Under 19 levels and was a member of the gold medal winning New Zealand Sevens team at the Melbourne Commonwealth Games.

Meanwhile, the Highlanders flanker Alando Soakai has joined the squad as temporary cover for Hawke's Bay's Karl Lowe, who's on paternity leave.

Canterbury's Stephen Brett has replaced Luke McAlister, who has been called into the All Blacks squad as replacement for Richard Kahui.
