Basketball world champs bailed out by government grant

A further $200,000 in government funding has bailed out New Zealand basketball, allowing it to host next month's under 19 world champs in Auckland.

The tournament was previously given a grant of $150,000 but needed the extra $200,000 after failing to come up with sponsorship.

The Economic Development Minister Gerry Brownlee says the grant ensured the tournament remained in New Zealand.

Sixteen teams will take part in the tournament.
