The U.S. PGA Tour has avoided a potentially damaging split over golf's rules by falling into line with the Royal & Ancient and United States Golf Association, and agreeing to a ban on extended-length putters anchored to the body.
The rule-making amateur bodies had already imposed a ban from 2016, while the PGA Tour had been opposed to the move.
The PGA tour commissioner Tom Finchem said their policy board ultimately concluded that while there are divided opinions among their membership, a ban on anchored strokes would not fundamentally affect a strong presentation of their competitions or the overall success of the PGA Tour.
