United Nations flavour to Wimbledon quarterfinals

5:51 pm on 2 July 2013

Eight women from eight different countries will contest the Wimbledon singles quarterfinals tonight.

The Czech eighth seed Petra Kvitova, who won the Wimbledon title two years ago and China's Li Na, who won the French Open winner in 2011 are the only two grand slam winners remaining.

After defeat for Maria Sharapova and Victoria Azarenka's injury-enforced withdrawal, Serena Williams was expected to stroll to a sixth Wimbledon title but her fourth-round defeat by German Sabine Lisicki has lef the draw wide open.

Kvitova plays the 20th seed Kirsten Flipkens of Belgium, while Li plays fourth- seeded Pole Agnieszka Radwanska who was runner-up last year.

Lisicki will play Estonia's unseeded Kaia Kanepi while American Sloane Stephens plays former runner-up Marion Bartoli of France.
