The Wellington Saints have won their ninth National Basketball League game in a row to claim the regular season title, with a 104 to 93 defeat of the visiting Southland Sharks.
Saints sixth regular season title ends Southland's seven wins on the trot and seals the capital side's also best-ever winning run of 87.5 percent.
The Sharks now head down south to play the Nelson Giants, who currently have the same amount of losses at four.
If the Southlanders win they will finish second, but if they lose to the Giants and then the Otago Nuggets defeat the Taranaki Mountain Airs, then the Sharks could finish fourth and would face the Saints again in the playoffs.
