Vettel scores breakthrough win at home

The world motor racing champion Sebastian Vettel scored a breakthrough win on home soil after being pushed all the way by Kimi Raikkonen at the German grand prix, sending him 34 points clear of Ferrari's Fernando Alonso in the race for the championship.

Vettel's winning margin over Raikkonen was just one second and the Finn is within six points of Alonso in third place on the points table.

Raikkonen's teammate Romain Grosjean was third, and Alonso finished fourth after he'd started on an adventurous tyre strategy.

There were none of the tyre failures that undermined last week's British Grand Prix, but a stray wheel from Mark Webber's car injured a tv cameraman in the pitlane, costing Red Bull a 30,000 euro fine.
