The New Zealand rowing team has reached two A finals and seven semi-finals on the first day of racing at the Lucerne World Cup event.

The men's double scullers Robbie Manson and Michael Arms won their heat to go directly to the A final, as did the women's pair of Rebecca Scown and Kayla Pratt.

Hamish Bond and Eric Murray won their men's pair heat to head straight to the semi-finals, while the men's lightweight four, men's lightweight single sculler Duncan Grant and women's single sculler Emma Twigg also all won their heats to reach the semis.

Women's lightweight Louise Ayling was second in her heat, which was enough to book her spot in the semis, while the women's lightweight double sculls duo of Lucy Strack and Julia Edward also placed second in their heat to reach the semis, as did the men's quadruple scull.
