The Southern Steel shooter Jhaniele Fowler has been named the trans-Tasman netball competition's Most Valuable Player.

The 23-year-old Jamaican international goal shoot finished her maiden season with 666 goals, breaking the league's records for most goals in a season and most goals in a game, scoring 65 goals in a game twice this year.

She's the third import and second Jamaican to be named as the league's MVP, following in the footsteps of compatriot Romelda Aiken and England's Sonia Mkoloma.

Fowler has re-signed with the Steel for another two seasons.
