Not injuries; more with the bat required, says Vettori

The New Zealand cricket captain Dan Vettori isn't blaming injuries for their exit from the Twenty20 World Cup.

The Black Caps blew their chance to make the semi-finals with another sub-stanard batting performance in their must-win match against Sri Lanka at Trent Bridge in Nottingham.

Chasing 159 they were well placed at 64 for two before collapsing to 110 all out.

Skipper Daniel Vettori says their batting let them down throughout the tournament and they just didn't get the runs to give themselves a chance.

Martin Guptil top-scored with 43 from 34 balls, and Sri Lanka's bowling star was the off spinner Ajantha Mendis, who took three wickets for nine runs from three overs.

South Africa play Pakistan on Friday and Sri Lanka face the West Indies on Saturday in the semi-finals.
