The Olympic silver medallist Sarah Walker is confident she'll be on the start ramp for next week's BMX World Champs in Auckland despite having still having her fractured arm in a brace.

Walker sufferd the injury while racing in the United States recently but plans to return to her bike this week and is determined to compete at Vector Arena.

Walker says if the event wasn't in New Zealand she'd probably not compete but as it's first time the world champs have been here and she's unlikely to be competing when they return, she wants to be part of the competition.

BikeNZ's BMX Coach Ryan Hollows says the injury is healing faster than expected and the medical advice is that Walker should be able to compete, although he concedes she won't be fully fit.

Hollows says Walker is a tough person, which she showed winning her silver medal in London last year while suffering a broken shoulder.
