Waikato have easily held onto rugby's Ranfurly Shield in their first defence of the season, crushing the Heartland Championship challenegers Horowhenua Kapiti 85-0 in Morrinsville.
The New Zealand under 20 winger, Joe Webber, was impressive with four tries, while the departing Waikato stalwart, Brendan Leonard, scored a try in his final game for the province.
The challengers from Levin fought hard and pushed for a try late in the match, but were unable to get on the scoreboard.
