A cheeky email has earnt surprise US Open competitor, Northland's Doug Batty, a practice round with world golf number one Tiger Woods at Bethpage Black, ahead of the tournament which gets underway in New York on Friday.

Batty, who qualified just last week, emailed Wood's caddy fellow New Zealander Steve Williams in the hope he might be able to play a couple of holes alongside Woods.

He doesn't know Williams, but Williams was more than happy to arrange it - although it didn't start well for Batty who sliced his opening shot on the first of the nine holes he played with Woods.

Batty lost his card on the Canadian Tour last year.
