Pattinson out of Ashes tour

8:30 am on 23 July 2013

The Australian fast bowler James Pattinson will miss the rest of the Ashes cricket series against England after suffering a stress fracture of the lower back.

The 23-year-old complained of soreness in his hip and back at the end of the second Test at Lord's.

Pattinson has taken 7 wickets in the first two tests and has struggled for rhythm and was in danger of being dropped anyway.

Mitchell Starc and Jackson Bird are in line to come in for the third Test at Old Trafford next week.

Nathan Coulter-Nile and Chadd Sayers shape as front runners if a replacement is summoned.
