The Australian cyclist Stuart O'Grady could be stripped of his Olympic medals after admitting to using performance-enhancing drugs at the 1998 Tour de France.
O'Grady, who retired this week, has told a newspaper he used the banned blood-booster EPO before the notorious 1998 Tour.
The admission came after a French Senate inquiry named him among riders with suspicious test results in a damning report into the 1998 race.
O'Grady won a gold medal at the Athens Olympics in 2004 in the madison, a team pursuit silver at the 1992 Barcelona Games and two bronze medals at Atlanta in 1996.
A spokesperson for the Australian Olympic Committee Mike Tancred says it'll be up to cycling's international governing body the UCI to recommend to the IOC, whether or not to strip O'Grady of his medals.
The French inquiry found the the top three finishers at the 1998 tour Italian Marco Pantani, Germany's Jan Ullrich and American Bobby Julich were among 18 riders who had tested positive for EPO.
