9:33 am on 28 July 2013

Mitch Evans has earned a front row start for Sunday's GP2 Sprint race at the Hungarian Grand Prix with a storming drive in the Feature race.

The 19-year-old New Zealander started eleventh on the grid, but was through to third after 10 laps as his rivals stopped early for their compulsory pit stop.

Evans led for five laps at mid-distance before making a late stop to change tyres.

It was the fifth consecutive GP2 Feature race that Evans has led.

He came out 14th after his tyre change and charged back to seventh at the flag.

The result will see the Kiwi starting second on the reverse top eight grid for tonight's Sprint race which is timed to start at 20.30 (NZ Time)
