The New Zealand men's eight has won the gold medal on the final day of the under-23 world rowing championships in Austria.

All of New Zealand's seven crews were in A finals and came away with five medals in total - one gold, two silver and two bronze.

The New Zealand eight led from the halfway point and held off the USA and Poland.

This result from the eight shows a real development opportunity for Rowing New Zealand to field all 14 Olympic boat classes in Rio 2016.

In today's other results the men's quadruple squad won silver and the women's lightweight double scull won bronze.

In yesterday's A finals there were two medals won - a silver medal performance by the men's coxed four and the women's four won bronze.
