English football's Premier League has terminated its live-match contract with the struggling Irish broadcaster Setanta, saying the company had failed to meet its payments.
Setanta held the rights to show two English Premier packages, or 46 live matches a season.
The League will now look for another buyer for next season's games.
Setanta had teetered on the brink of administration for most of this month after missing payments for sports rights, having failed to sign up the 1.9 million subscribers needed to make the service pay.
It says it will be considering its options over the weekend.
Setanta has been the minor player in football broadcasts against the dominant BSkyB, which will continue to show most English Premiership matches.
