Bayern chief charged with tax evasion

Bayern Munich's football president Uli Hoeness has been charged with tax evasion following months of investigations into his affairs.

Hoeness, the face of Bayern Munich for many years, stunned Germany in April by saying he had voluntarily alerted tax authorities in January to a Swiss bank account he held, throwing the former international's future into doubt.

It's now up to Munich's regional court to decide whether or not to accept the charges and set a date for a trial.

Hoeness could face a jail sentence but hopes for leniency after naming himself as a tax evader, and he has said the account had nothing to do with Bayern Munich.
