All Blacks midfielder Ma'a Nonu appears set for a return to the Hurricanes, after being endorsed by the captain Conrad Smith.
The New Zealand Rugby Union has put pressure on the franchise to take back the player they cut two years ago after he's had unhappy seasons with the Blues and the Highlanders.
Smith says while there's still water to go under the bridge, he's told the coach Mark Hammett he'd be keen to get Nonu back to Wellington.
Smith says some issues need to be worked through, but he's optimistic a deal can be reached.
