US Open further delayed by rain

6:29 am on 22 June 2009

The US Open golf championship has been further set back by another major rain delay, and the event seems set to go into a 5th day.

The start of play on the scheduled final day was delayed for 5-and-a-half hours because of more heavy rain on Long Island.

The American Ricky Barnes has extended his lead to three shots with a birdie and an eagle in his first four holes to lead at 11 under par. Lucas Glover is 8 under par, the Canadian Mike Weir 7 under, and there's four shots back to England's Ross Fisher and the Amerian Hunter Mahan at 3 under par.
