The American golfer Stacey Lewis is the new British Open champion after posting a precious even par round of 72 on a windy final day at St. Andrews in Scotland.

The world number two came through the pack to set her rivals an 8-under par target, which in the end was good enough for a two-stroke victory over the South Korean pair Hee-Young Park and Na-Yeon Choi.

The New Zealand teenager Lydia Ko had a closing round of 74 to finish in a tie for 44th, sharing the amateur honours with England's Georgia Hall.
