The New York Yankees batter Alex Rodriguez was booed and jeered when he took the field against the Chicago White Sox in Chicago today, following his 211-game suspension for doping.
Baseball's highest paid star has been suspended by Major League Baseball having been linked to a closed Florida clinic which allegedly supplied banned performing-enhancing drugs.
The 38-year-old's appealed the suspension, which means he can still play.
The game was his first of the season after undergoing hip surgery in January.
Four years ago Rodriguez admitted to using performance-enhancing drugs while playing for the Texas Rangers from 2001 to 2003 but he's previously denied using steroids since.
But at a media conference before Tuesday's game there was no denial, Rodriguez saying he'd address the issue another time.
Should Rodriguez serve the full 211-game ban is estimated it will cost him $50 million in lost earnings.
The Yankees lost Tuesday's game 8-1.
