Suarez speaks out

12:20 pm on 7 August 2013

The Liverpool football star Luis Suarez says he will submit a transfer request this week - unless the club allows him to leave to join Arsenal.

Liverpool reportedly told Suarez last season that they'd let him go if they failed to qualify for the European Champions League, and it appears the two parties disagree over the release clause in the Uruguayan's contract.

Suarez, who is to have a scan on a foot injury he sustained in training, says he's told the manager Brendon Rodgers that he wants to leave and is prepared to take his case to the Premier League.

Last month Arsenal tabled an offer of 40 million and one pounds for the striker, which Suarez's camp believes should automatically trigger a release clause, but Liverpool appear to think it merely means they must start to negotiate.

Liverpool have maintained that Suarez is not for sale in the face of strong interest from Arsenal.

Suarez, who's four matches into a 10-game ban for biting, is to have a scan on a foot injury he sustained in training and will miss tonight's pre-season friendly against Valerenga in Norway.
