Barett stays with Hurricanes

The All Blacks first five eighth Beauden Barett has ended weeks of speculation by deciding to stay with the Hurricanes after suggestions he would move north to the Auckland Blues.

The Blues have struggled to find a game-breaking first five since the Carlos Spencer left the team in 2005 and coach Sir John Kirwan strongly pursued their Barrett.

Barett says he's seriously considered the offer which is why he took several weeks to make up his mind.

He's also only signed a one year deal which the Hurricanes giving himself options beyond 2014.

Meanwhile the Chiefs hooker Hika Elliott has joined Counties Manukau for the upcoming national provincial competition.

The former All Black was unwanted by Hawke's Bay.
