Par beats Tiger on day one at the PGA

6:02 am on 9 August 2013

The hot favourite Tiger Woods hasn't been able to break par on the opening day of golf's last major of the year, the PGA championship at the Oak Hill country club in New York.

The winner of five titles this year, but still seeking his first major championship since 2008, dropped a shot on his last hole and finished with a one-over par 71, currently tied for 26th.

The veteran American Jim Furyk has completed a 5-under par 65 to lead by one shot from the Canadian David Hearn, with another shot back to a group that includes the in-form Swede Henrik Stenson, and the highly ranked Amnerican Matt Kuchar, who've both completed their rounds.

The second favourite Phil Mickelson has just teed off.
