This weekend's Community Shield match between Manchester United and Wigan Athletic, the traditional opener to the English football season, will make history when it becomes the first official match to use goal-line technology.
The technology, developed by the English company Hawkeye, which provides ball-tracking technology for both tennis and cricket, will also be used at the England-Scotland friendly at Wembley next Wednesday, then for every match in this season's Premier League.
