Gold for NZ at sailing World Champs

1:30 pm on 12 August 2013

Auckland sailors Jo Aleh and Polly Powrie have been crowned 470 World Champions for the first time, the title coming exactly one year to the day since they won Olympic Gold.

Aleh and Powrie were leading the points race going into the medal race in La Rochelle, France, which they won to take out the gold medal.

Aleh says the pair were relaxed heading into thr race, which helped them to sail a great race.

While the pair has amassed plenty of World Championship and World Cup medals the closest they've come to the title is silver in 2010 and bronze in 2011.

New Zealand's Paul Snow-Hansen and Dan Willcox finished seventh in the men's World Championship.
