Northland's Mary Davies has finished 37th in the marathon at the Athletics World Champs in Moscow.
The 30-year-old former hockey player finished in two hours 51 minutes and 24 seconds, 22 minutes outside her personal best.
The race was run in brutal warm, humid conditions with over a third of the field failing to finish.
Davies says she was troubled with a stomach problem and felt like she was breathing through a straw.
Davies was 20th at five kilometres in 17 minutes 16 seconds, 30th at 10 kilometres in 35 minutes and 40 seconds - by 35 kilometres she was 39th, and 36th at 40 kilometres.
Edna Kiplagat of Kenya successfully defended her title from Daegu two years ago racing to lead with kilometres to go to win in two hours 25 minutes and 44 seconds.
