Junior mountain bike World Champion Anton Cooper, who missed the early part of the season with a debilitating illness, has bounced back to win the UCI World Cup Under-23 title in Canada.

The Cannondale Factory Team rider was fourth after the opening lap before pushing through to the lead with two others, dropping Swiss rider Reto Indergand on the fourth of six laps and then Germany's Julian Schelb on the final lap.

Cooper, who struggled to recover from a virus earlier in the year, won in 1:17.53 to be a minute clear of Schelb.

Rotorua's Dirk Peters finished 19th.
