Dufner wins PGA Championship

The American golfer Jason Dufner erased memories of his stunning collapse two years ago when he clinched his first major title by two shots at the PGA Championship at Oak Hill in New York.

One stroke behind his playing partner Jim Furyk overnight, the laidback Dufner produced some scintillating approach play on the way to a two-under-par 68 and a 10-under total.

Dufner seized control with three birdies on the front nine and shut the door on his rivals with some safety-first golf over the difficult closing stretch.

The 36-year-old lost in a playoff to Keegan Bradley for the 2011 PGA Championship, where he had led by five strokes in regulation before falling apart.

Furyk signed off with a 71 to finish alone in second place.
