An inspired Lleyton Hewitt has pulled off the biggest upset so far at Wimbledon, eliminating the 5th seed Juan Martin del Potro in straight sets.

The 2002 champion, currently ranked 56 in the world after a series of injuries, said he executed his game play perfectly on his way to a 6-3 7-5 7-5 victory over the 20 year old Argentine, who's been widely tipped as a future winner of major titles.

28 year old Hewitt's next opponent is an unseeded German Philipp Petzchner.

The home favourite Andy Murray showed his class to beat a potentially dangerous opponent in Latvia's Ernests Gulbis in straight sets.

The American sixth seed Andy Roddick had to overcome a mid-match stutter to beat Russia's Igor Kunitsyn in four sets.

The five-time womens champion Venus Williams and the current French Open champion Svetlana Kuznetsova are through to the last 32.

Meanwhile after a week shrieks, wails and squeals dominating the headlines at Wimbledon, the outgoing WTA chief Larry Scott said the tour could no longer turn a deaf ear to the grunting phenomenon that has swept women's tennis.
