South Sydney's breathed new life into their National Rugby League minor premiership hopes with a 22-10 comeback win over Manly.

The Rabbitohs kept Manly scoreless in the second half, but Sea Eagles coach Geoff Toovey's fuming at the decision to not award a try to former Kiwis centre Steve Matai, when they still led 10-6.

Toovey could find himself slapped with a fine from the NRL after an astonishing post-game rant in which he sounded off over the no-try call, questioning how the video referee ruled the ball was held up when the coach said it was clearly on the ground.

He called the decision "ridiculous" and went on to call for an investigation, while slating the referees Shayne Hayne and Henry Perenara.

Toovey questioned why, if NRL teams are supposed to have the best officials, whether the pair were the best the competition has.

Elsewhere, the Brisbane Broncos beat the visiting Parramatta Eels 22-12.
