Warriors still in it

9:27 am on 25 August 2013

The Warriors have kept their slim hopes of a National Rugby League finals place alive on the Gold Coast with a narrow 24-22 win over the Titans.

Both teams were desperate for the two competition points as the race for the top eight nears the finishing line and it was the Warriors who did just enough.

In Saturday night's other games, Wests Tigers demolished the St George Illawarra Dragons 34-18 at the SCG, with young Luke Brooks completing one of the most memorable debuts in recent memory.

The 18-year-old scored one try and set up another in a brilliant halfback's display - but fans will have to wait another six months to see him in the NRL again thanks to the shortcomings of the salary cap.

Despite impressing the best of judges, Brooks will be banished to under 20s for the rest of the season

And the North Queensland extended their winning streak to four matches with an impressive 26-6 home victory over the Newcastle Knights in Townsville.

The win keeps the Cowboys' miracle run to finals football alive.

North Queensland coach Neil Henry says he's happy to be in the top eight, but the challenge is to stay there with matches remaining against Cronulla and Wsts Tigers.
