Top four seeds through to womens semis

7:32 am on 1 July 2009

The Williams sisters will play Russian opponents in the Wimbledon semi-finals after the top four seeds all made the last four for the first time since 2006.

The five-times champion Venus Williams dropped only three games against Poland's Agnieszka Radwanska, and Serena beat the Belarusian eighth seed Victoria Azarenka 6-2 6-3.

The top seed Dinara Safina had to come from a set down for the second day in succession to get past the unseeded German teenager Sabine Lisicki, while Elena Dementieva, the Olympic and Auckland champion, had a straightforward win over the Italian Francesca Schiavone 6-2 6-2, so the Russian still hasn't dropped a set.

But she knows she'll have to play the match of her life to beat the winner of 10 major titles.

In tonight's men's quarter-finals the favourite Roger Federer meets the giant Croatian Ivo Karlovic who's sent down 137 aces in four matches.
