French Rugby Federation announces they'll open Basteraud inquiry

The French Rugby Federation has announced that they will officially open an inquiry into the Mathieu Basteraud affair.

The 20-year-old centre is receiving treatment in a psychiatric hospital near Paris, after retracting his claim that he'd been assaulted after the second test against the All Blacks in Wellington earlier this month.

Following the teams arrival back in France, the French Rugby President Pierre Camou announced that a judicial process will begin although a date is yet to be set.

Basteraud initially said he'd been assaulted by a group of people outside his Wellington hotel, he later changed the story that he had fallen on a bedside cabinet.

All the major French newspapers are questioning the veracity of the accounts given so far and believes heads will roll.

The French team manager Jo Maso has suggested there was a fight amongst players.
