The New Zealand cyclist Greg Henderson has finished eighth in a sprint finish to stage five of the Vuelta a Espana.

Henderson is 15th in the sprinters points classification, but well down in general classification.

The Australian Michael Matthews won the stage and afterwards thanked his Orica-GreenEdge sports director, the New Zealander Julian Dean, for giving him all the right information on the sprint finish.

Italian Vincenzo Nibali, the favourite for outright victory in Madrid on September 15th, maintained his slender three second lead over Chris Horner of the United States in the overall standings.
