Celtic make the grade in Europe

Celtic has scored a dramatic 3-0 home win over visiting Kazakh side Shakhtyor Karaganda to secure a place among the elite of European football.

Celtic needed to overturn a 2-0 deficit from the first leg to reach the Champions League group stage, and it took til the second minute of extra time at Celtic Park for the Glasgow giants to score the crucial third goal through winger James Forrest.

Joining them in the Champions League proper today were Italy's AC Milan, Spanish club Real Sociedad, Russians Zenit St Petersburg and Czech side Viktoria Plzen.

AC Milan thrashed Dutch outfit PSV Eindhoven 3-0 at the San Siro to win 4-1 on aggregate, Real Sociedad cruised past Olympique Lyonnais 2-0 for a 4-0 aggregate victory, Zenit won 4-2 over visiting Portugese club Pacos de Ferreira for a massive 8-3 aggregate triumph, and Viktoria Plzen won 1-0 away at Slovenians NK Maribor for a 4-1 aggregate win.
