The striker Michael Owen's revealed he was surprised and pleased to be asked to sign for the English football champions Manchester United.

The Red Devils' manager Sir Alex Ferguson was on the lookout for a striker to replace some of the goals he'll be missing after Cristiano Ronaldo's massive transfer to Real Madrid.

Owen, formerly of England, Liverpool and Real was off contract at the relegated Newcastle United when Sir Alex called him up to come over for breakfast.

Critics are hailing the shock free transfer move for the 29-year-old as either brilliant business or a terrible decision. Only goals next season will tell which is the correct verdict.
