The young New Zealand yachtie Sam Meech has extended his lead after 2 days of the Boys Laser Radial class at the Youth World Championships in Brazil.
Meech, of the Murrays Bay Sailing Club, finished 4th and 6th today and after 4 races has a 25 point lead with 4 days to go.
He was a bronze medallist at the 2008 Championship sailed in Denmark, and his experience in Olympic class racing is certainly paying dividends in the age group competition.
In other classes Rachel Basevi is 18th overall in the Girles Laser Radial..... in the boardsailing Ben Mackay is 11th and Lucy Driver 10th, Marcus Hansen and James Turner are 10th in the multihulls, Ben Goodwin and Logan Dunning-Beck are 15th in the boys 420 and Alexandra Maloney and Bianca Barbarich-Bacher are 15th in the girls 420.
