Shield victory parade awaits Counties Manukau

10:57 am on 9 September 2013

The Counties Manukau coach Tana Umaga says his team will enjoy the Ranfurly Shield victory parade before it worries about the challenge from Taranaki next Sunday.

Counties won the Shield Saturday from Hawke's Bay, who had only held the challenge trophy for six days since capturing it from Otago last week - the shortest tenure in history.

Otago only held the Old Log nine days after winning it from Waikato.

Umaga says having three homes for the Shield in as many weeks has rejuvenated the public's interest in the trophy.

Saturday's victory was the first time Counties Manukau has won the Ranfurly Shield in the team's 58-year history.
