Rafael Nadal is close to regaining the number one ranking in world tennis after his epic win over Novak Djokovic in the US Open final in New York.

The Spaniard's emotional four sets win has taken him to within 120 points of Djokovic, and with the top two closing in on 11,000 points, they're nearly 3,000 points ahead of the world number three Andy Murray.

Nadal's Spain Davis Cup captain Alex Corretja will wait until he arrives home before asking him about his availability to play in the opening round of singles in their world group tie against Ukraine starting on Friday night.
