New IOC boss keen for Russia strategy

12:15 pm on 13 September 2013

Newly-elected International Olympic Committee president Thomas Bach wants the IOC to come up with a strategy to deal with next year's controversial Sochi winter Olympics.

And the German wants the strategy to be formed in his first month or so in office.

Russia's anti-gay propaganda laws allow for anyone providing information on homosexuality to under-18-year-olds to be fined, and have led to calls for the winter Games to be moved.

Bach says the IOC is not a supranational parliament or government, but it can send a message to Russian society at large by showing the respect and values of the Games, within the winter Games.
