Nonu to Clermont?

All Blacks midfielder Ma'a Nonu may not need to find another Super Rugby franchise next year, if reports out of Europe are true.

ESPN's Scrum.com claims that Nonu's poised to join French Top 14 side Clermont Auvergne.

If that's correct then there's the possibility he could return to play for the All Blacks after the French season ends next June - bypassing Super Rugby.

In 2009, Luke McAlister was rushed back into the All Blacks after a two year stint at the Sale Sharks despite not having played in a New Zealand competition that year.

Nonu's without a Super Rugby home after leaving the Highlanders, having already played for the Hurricanes and the Blues.

Springboks captain and second five Jean de Villiers can't understand why Nonu's in the Super Rugby wilderness.

The 91-test veteran suggests his opposite could make the move to South Africa if Nonu's unwanted in his own country.

De Villiers says Nonu would be welcome in Cape Town, and it's not a bad place to live.
