The New Zealand amateur Lydia Ko has finished second in the Evian Masters in France, the last major of the year on the women's golf tour.
16-year-old Ko fired a one under par 70 in the third and final round of the rain-delayed tournament, to finish eight under overall, two shots behind Norwegian Suzann Pettersen, who picked up her second major title.
Petersen finished with a three under par 68.
Ko concedes she was simply outplayed in the final round, the third round after the tournament was shortened to 54 holes due to rain on the opening day.
But it's the best finish from a New Zealand woman in a major championship, surpassing Wellington pro Lynnette Brooky's effort at the US Open in 2002 when she finished tied for 12th.
And Ko claimed the leading amateur honours for the sixth time in seven major appearances.
18-year-old American Lexi Thompson was third, another two shots back.
