Coastal Spirit take Knockout Cup with own goal

4:29 pm on 15 September 2013

A freakish own goal in the third minute of injury time has sealed the Women's Knockout Cup trophy for Christchurch club Coastal Spirit.

The 1-0 victory over Glenfield Rovers in the final, at Christchurch's ASB Football Park, was a modicum of revenge for Coastal Spirit's loss to the same Auckland opponents in the 2011 final.

It's just the fourth time in the competition's 20-year history that the trophy will spend the summer outside Auckland, and the first time since Nomads won the inaugural 1994 final that a Christchurch team has won.
