The world snooker champion Ronnie O'Sullivan has tried to clarify comments he made about match fixing in the sport in the wake of former world number five Stephen Lee was found guilty of match-fixing this week.

Lee could be banned for life and O'Sullivan tweeted that he believed many other players had been involved in throwing matches.

The five-times world champion was asked to explain his comments by World Snooker chief Barry Hearn.

In a statement O'Sullivan said his reference to players throwing matches related to rumours from many years ago when the tour was much smaller than it is now.

He says if he was aware of match-fixing, it'd be up to him to report it.
