Future of next America's Cup already under discussion

America's Cup winners Oracle Team USA say they already have a challenger of record for the next regatta but whether Team New Zealand will be there is unclear.

Oracle retained the oldest trophy in international sport when it comfortably won the deciding race against Emirates Team New Zealand on San Francisco Bay to win the series 9-8.

Oracle's billionaire owner Larry Ellison says he will reveal the challenger soon and discussions will now begin over the format and location with Ellison enthusiatic about retaining the high speed catamaran format.

Ellison says he also wants more teams involved and acknowledges the costs need to come down if that's to happen.

Whether Team New Zealand and syndicate boss Grant Dalton will be involved is unknown.

Dalton says he's unsure what the future holds and it's too raw at this stage to consider whether he will be involved in another America's Cup challenge.

He remains opposed to the AC 72 catamarans being raced because of the cost factor.
